شركة الكهرباء والماء القطرية من أوائل شركات القطاع الخاص في المنطقة التي تعمل في مجال إنتاج الكهرباء وتحلية المياه كشركة مساهمة قطرية عامة تأسست عام 1990م طبقاً لأحكام قانون الشركات التجارية القطري ، بغرض إمتلاك وإدارة محطات توليد الكهرباء وتحلية المياه وبيع منتجاتها.
يبلغ رأس مال الشركة مليار ومائة مليون ريال قطري مدفوع بالكامل موزع على مائة وعشرة مليون سهم ، حيث تمتلك حكومة دولة قطر والمؤسسات التابعة لها ما يقارب 52% مـن رأس المال و يملك باقي المساهمين من الشركات والأفراد حوالي 48% ، ويتولى إدارة الشركة مجلس إدارة مكون مـن أحـد عشـر عضـواً برئاسـة الدكتور / محمد بن صالح السادة – وزير الطاقة والصناعة.
